What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is long-term, supportive, confidential relationship in which a mentor with experience in your vocation (ministry) walks with you through deep conversation, guided reading, and availability. A mentor is a “go to” resource whenever you need a listening ear, a safe place to vent, a conversation partner to explore ideas, or an empathetic yet diserning presence as you wrestle with the many difficulties of ministry.

Mentoring helps you reframe your work from being simply a job to becoming your vocation (from the Latin “to call” - your calling). The basis of mentoring is speaking the truth in love and giving to others what God has given to you, so a mentor is a great support to you as you grow both personally and professionally. Areas of focus for mentoring include: teaching and preaching, administration, staff relations, fund raising, project development, leadership development, coaching to solve a particular problem, or spiritual direction.

Mentoring consists of a monthly video conference or phone call lasting one hour, and email or text conversations between sessions if needed. Your mentor will be Kenny Payne (D.Min.), and at the end of the session you may have an assignment to complete before the next conversation. You set the agenda for the monthly conversations.

Your first mentoring session is free, so that you can experience mentoring and decide if this is a relationship you would like to continue. After the initial session the cost is $100 per month, payable at the beginning of each month. (If your church or organization pays your monthly fee, rest assured that the content of our conversations are confidential and will not be shared with anyone, even your employers.)
