Desert Wisdom

In the fourth century A.D. Christian hermits fled to the deserts of Egypt, Palestine, Arabia and Persia to remove themselves from the influence of the great cities and even the newly “Christianized” Roman Empire. They were seeking to deepen their faith in ways that allowed them to mature to the point that they could be helpful not only to themselves but also to the world that they had fled.

For the next month I will be posting quotes from these Desert Fathers and Mothers as they came to be known to history. Their wisdom from long ago has a great deal to teach us today. I hope that these posts will be helpful to you in your spiritual growth.
